What Hillsboro Homeowners Hire Us For
Retaining walls are the most common call we get from Hillsboro. The Tualatin Valley floor looks flat, but a lot of residential lots have enough grade change to need a structural wall, especially in the newer developments south of Tub Hills and along the edges of Jackson Bottom. Chimney repairs are steady too. Hillsboro’s housing stock from the 1970s through 1990s is hitting the age where mortar joints are failing and caps need replacing. We also build patios, walkways, fireplaces, fire pits, veneer facades, mailbox surrounds, and block foundations. Residential and commercial work throughout the city.

Masonry Services for Hillsboro and Washington County
Same crew on every Hillsboro job, whether it’s a chimney rebuild near downtown or a new retaining wall in South Hillsboro. Brick, block, stone, and concrete. Repairs, restoration, and new construction. Hillsboro is about 40 minutes north of our shop in Newberg, and we work in Washington County regularly. Here’s a breakdown of what we do and how each material works for different project types.
Brick Masonry
Hillsboro has a wide range of brick needs depending on the age of the property. Homes near downtown and along the older corridors have brick chimneys, porch columns, and planters from the 1960s and 70s that need repointing or partial rebuilds. Newer construction in Orenco Station and the South Hillsboro developments uses brick veneer for accent walls and facades. We handle both. Repairs, repointing, and full chimney rebuilds on older structures. New brick fireplaces, walkways, patios, veneer siding, and mailbox surrounds on newer homes. Hillsboro gets steady rain from October through May. We use mortar mixes rated for the moisture and freeze-thaw cycles this area puts brick through.

Stone Masonry
Stone retaining walls and stone patios are our two biggest stone projects in Hillsboro. The lot grading in newer neighborhoods creates demand for retaining walls that hold soil and give homeowners usable yard space. Stone walkways and patios take advantage of the dry summers when Hillsboro homeowners actually get outside. We build with natural stone like basalt and flagstone, and we work with manufactured stone veneer for accent walls and exterior facades. Stone fire pits and outdoor fireplaces are picking up here too, especially in the larger lots south of town. We also do stone veneer on interior accent walls, exterior columns, and entryway features.

Block Masonry
Concrete block (CMU) is the workhorse material for structural masonry. Foundation walls, retaining walls, freestanding fences, raised garden beds, and sound barriers. Block is the most affordable masonry material per square foot and goes up faster than brick or stone. In Hillsboro, block foundation walls are common for room additions, shop buildings, and detached garages. Block retaining walls work well on the residential lots where the grade needs correction but the budget doesn’t stretch to full stone. For properties near TV Highway or Cornell Road, block walls also serve as sound barriers to cut road noise.
